1580 Frida Collage Cigar Box Purse
The beautiful and iconic Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo’s image adorns this lovely little Humadorable cigar box purse. I’ve made this purse 5 times, but it has always been done as a custom order or sells before I can get it on my site! Of course they are all a bit different. This is a black, wooden La Palina Bronze cigar box with the original label left authentically intact, in black velvet on the inner lid. Six purple crystals flank the collage image and the original seal has also been left as is. The handle is made up of, black, gold, purple and silver beads and a fat purple tassel. I lovingly lined the interior with padded black velvet and purple ball trim. The cigar box has been flipped so that the opening is now on the top and has been given a gold three ball lock for security. The back of the up cycled cigar box purse has been painted black and sealed. Eight gold purse feet have been added to the back and bottom for protection. Gold hardware has been attached to the sides so that you may add a strap that you already own. This makes these little cigar box purses of mine versatile in that they can be worn by the handle, over the shoulder or cross- body. I sell straps and gold and silver cross body chains too. The chain in the last photo is available, but not included. 7.25 x 6.25 x 3″ THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC CIGAR BOX PURSE, SO SMALL FLAWS INFLICTED BY THE SMOKERS OF THE CIGARS ARE TO BE EXPECTED! They only add character and charm! Large flaws will be noted in the description. History: If you’re familiar with La Palina beyond by name, you might very well know that this current incarnation of La Palina is the second go-round for the company, with its history dating back to 1896 and Sam Paley, an immigrant from the Ukraine who began working in a cigar factory in Chicago, first as a lector and then as a roller and blender. After several years and with a burgeoning interest in cigars, Paley opened a cigar shop and factory in 1896, the Congress Cigar Co. The first and most prominent cigar to come out of that factory was La Palina, a cigar made with Cuban filler and American wrapper. In 1910 the company moved to Philadelphia, with Sam’s son William S. Paley joining the operation. But the younger Paley was more intrigued with radio than cigars, and eventually purchased five radio stations that would become the foundation of the Columbia Broadcasting System, or what we know today as CBS. After Sam retired in 1926, Congress Cigar Co. was liquidated and La Palina appeared to be left to the annals of history.
